The Learning curve of a debut author

From Manuscript to Masterpiece

Earlier this year, the growth mindset voice in my head said, “Allison – you should pursue a hobby.” Contemplating a bevy of options, I elected to pursue a creatively and intellectually stimulating hobby and declared to all who would listen: I will become a children’s book author. And so it began.

Who knew that writing the story would be the “easy” part? In fact, none of this journey has been easy. Setting my sights on becoming a children’s book author has been overwhelming. But with each wave of anxiety, self-doubt, and trepidation, there have been equal parts of sheer unbridled exhilaration! And through it all, the key ingredient has been patience.

As I get closer to holding my debut picture book, Girls Aren’t Just Girly in my hands, I’m abundantly aware that the learning curve is still there. As my knowledge increases, the curve cradles me. As I stumble across a new wrinkle, the curve threatens to throw a detour in my path. But I keep going, fueled with patience, persistence and passion.
